2007 Preview
The Tullahoma Wildcats face the monumental task of replacing an all-state quarterback and his top four receiving targets, along with four of the five starting offensive linemen. At most schools that would spell a rebuilding year and little chance of postseason possibilities.

However, Tullahoma has a key ingredient that most schools don't possess - head coach John Olive, defensive coordinator Ronnie Dyer, offensive coordinator Sam Melton, former professional quarterback Steve Matthews, former all-state running back Maurice Shaw, and a host of other experienced, effective coaches.

In other words this group, many of which have been together for at least 10 years, seems to always have the Wildcats contending for postseason honors regardless of graduating talent and the talent of other teams in the region. At Tullahoma winning is expected, and Olive's 13 winning seasons in his 15 years have created those expectations.

The 2007 Wildcats will win if they can run the ball effectively. Bobby Dowdell returns after a 1,000-yard rushing season, along with classmate Ryan Bean who is equally talented and was last season's starter before going down with an injury. If the offensive line can gel, and new QB Chris Bishop can keep the defense honest using the spread offense, then look for the Wildcats to ride Bean and Dowdell as much as possible.

Huge losses were also suffered on the defensive side, where almost every starter will be new. Dowdell again shines at cornerback, and Bean will be an active linebacker who is fearless. The defensive front is suspect though, and players with little prime game experience will have to step up and perform big.

Potential breakout campaigns by juniors Tryston Horton, Derek Lawson, and Jared Olive could be the difference between the playoffs and a 10-game season for the Wildcats. Each of those skill position players needs to stay healthy and perform to their capabilities. The same holds true for seniors Taylor Roper, Cody Quick, Marshall Cooper, and Tristan Solies. They will anchor both sides of the line and must open holes for Dowdell and Bean to be effective.

Tullahoma' schedule opens at home with Lincoln Co. in Week 0. All non-region games are against Region 3-5A opponents, which is one of the weaker 5A regions in the state. Inside Region 5-4A the 'Cats host Whites Creek, Hillsboro, and Stratford. It will be a struggle, but the guess here is that once again the Tullahoma Wildcats will find a way to reach the postseason in 2007.
